Definition Preparation and maintenance of misdemeanor criminal files.
To prepare motions for filing and court documents related to adjudications and revocations in the criminal division.
To develop and maintain e-discovery system for criminal cases.
Must have knowledge of legal documents and legal language.
The Deputy Criminal Clerk will maintain a positive and professional relationship with law enforcement agencies, officers, county personnel, attorneys, and the public.
Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties--Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.
Document intake and case files in Odyssey.
2.
Develop and maintain an e-discovery system for defense attorneys.
3.
Scan documents related to criminal cases.
4.
Calendar criminal dockets, motions, and hearings.
5.
Prepare case letters for law enforcement officers after pleas.
6.
Prepare plea documents as needed.
7.
Pull Criminal files and maintain files.
8.
Prepare documents and obtain signatures.
9.
Prepare and participate in the processing of court documents in accordance with court procedures and legal requirements in the criminal division.
10.
Attend court proceedings when necessary.
11.
Close files and TRN reporting.
1.
Assist in other divisions of the office as directed.
2.
Assist public with non-legal information.
Qualifications Knowledge of:
1.
Case file calendaring.
2.
Discovery procedures and deadlines.
3.
Principles of basic preparation of legal documents.
4.
Follow procedures and practices set by the State of Texas.
5.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
6.
Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation.
7.
Legal terms, legal language, legal documents.
8.
Basic mathematical principles.
9.
Pertinent state laws as set forth by the Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.
10.
County forms, records, files and legal documents.
11.
Modern office procedures, methods, computer equipment and computer programs.
12.
County policies and procedures.
Ability to:

Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations and procedures applicable to the assigned area of responsibility.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Responsible legal secretarial experience involving legal terms, legal language and knowledge of preparing legal documents.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized legal secretarial training or experience.
License or Certificate:
High School Diploma Working Conditions Environmental Conditions:
Office environment; working closely with others; exposure to computer screens; extensive work on computer keyboard.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time, extensive use of a computer keyboard, exposure to computer screen, carrying boxes of files or computer equipment from office to courtroom, lifting boxes of files.
